The last land battle of this war was the Battle of Fort Bowyer in what is today Alabama, which was won by the British on February 12, 1815. The British were not trying to reconqueror the United States. They were trying to stop the Americans from migrating westward by giving a large slice of land stretching from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico for their Indian allies. The British occupation of Hampton, VA. lasted one day ! It was French troops fighting with the British that went beserk, raping and robbing in Hampton ! They were quickly returned to the British ships and made to stay there ! Also, after the War of 1812 British and Canadians also built fortifications to protect our country against another land attack by you Americans. Canada got peaceful independence on July 1, 1867 but the last British troops did not withdraw from Canada until March, 1906.
